Reading books about adventure, mystery, and suspense

Do you have time to kill? Do you also like to read books about adventure, mystery, and suspense?

Kill time with exciting, thrilling, and intriguing stories about exotic travels, murder investigations, serial killers, and espionage. Before you know it, hours have passed but not wasted. You have enjoyed and made yourself relax before you take on the rigors of your daily activities.

What makes adventure so enticing to read about?

You’re transported to faraway locations. Places that you never dreamt that you could travel to, given your busy schedule and the journeying restrictions these days. Sometimes, reading about these travels, whether fiction or fact, is even more satisfying than the real journey itself.

What does a mystery story offer to you, the reader?

You are tingling all over as you feel danger and fear while seated in your Lazy Boy. You want to match wits with the investigator or the detective about who the real killer is from among the book characters. You’re an intelligent person who loves to evaluate the psychological outlook and motivational drives of the characters. It gives you a sense of closure if the guilty parties are brought to justice in the end, giving you a feeling of fulfillment.

What is a great suspense story for you?

Sometimes there is confusion because mystery and suspense plots may overlap, but you don’t care! What’s important is you were entertained and intrigued!

In suspense, you will feel a sense of worry or anticipation as you read along. You empathize with the main character as they gradually become aware of danger coming.

You share the same information with the investigator in a mystery, but you’re equipped with knowledge unknown to the book protagonist in suspense.

You know the villain is setting up his scoped rifle to shoot the book’s star, but you suffer waiting for the time that it will happen.

A great suspense novel has five elements:

1) Conflict. There should be trouble brewing to keep the story going.

2) Pacing. Quick pacing, which doesn’t put you to sleep.

3) Red Herrings. They are clues that reroute or mislead you and keep you glued to the book.

4) Atmosphere. In suspense, the tone is usually dark and morbid and gives you goosebumps.

5) High Stakes. It’s worthwhile reading for you if the main character is on a tightrope between life and death.
